RPPL’s Youth Engaged Research-Practice Partnerships is an initiative designed to incorporate youth perspectives into our professional learning (PL) research and practices. By collaborating with Build.org, we did a design sprint with youth. We used BUILD’s youth fellowship playbook.

It is an aspiration that student engagement guides our efforts to gather insights from students about their experiences in schools, student-teacher relationships, and classroom environments. This feedback helps shape our recommendations for PL providers and inform our research on best practices. Our goal is to ensure that student voices play a critical role in shaping equitable educational practices.

The work involved in this initiative included extensive planning and collaboration with Build.org to develop effective methods for student engagement. Through surveys, focus groups, and interactive sessions, we collected valuable data directly from students on RPPL’s Learning Agenda. Upcoming meetings and workshops will focus on refining our strategies based on student feedback and disseminating the findings to PL organizations and districts. The project is ongoing, with regular updates and resources available to support the continuous improvement of PL practices with a strong emphasis on equity and student-centered approaches.
