Brown Bag: “Learning Engineering, aka ‘So You Want to Make Your Professional Learning Support Better’” (9/20/22)

Catch up with the recording from RPPL’s September 2022 Brown Bag about key methods for learning engineering.

By Dr. Ryan Baker, Professor at University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and Director of the Penn Center for Learning Analytics

Learning engineering applies a rigorous combination of theory, data, and analysis to develop and improve educational systems and methodologies to produce enduring and high-quality learning. In this session, Dr. Baker discussed key methods for learning engineering, providing an example in the iterative improvement of the design of gamification in a learning system, to better focus learner time and effort. Dr. Baker will conclude by discussing the emerging frontiers of learning engineering methods (drawing from a recent white paper from a convening by thirty learning engineers and stakeholders on the future of the field), focusing on areas of particular potential importance for RPPL members.
