Coffee Chat: Defining Curriculum-Based Professional Learning: Building a Common Language (5/6/25)

During the session,  attendees learned about how this paper will streamline communication and research, promote ongoing learning, establish shared expertise, and enhance the impact of CBPL on student experiences and outcomes.. Attendees also had the opportunity to discuss how the definitions and alignment provided can apply to their own PL services and research.

By Camea Davis, PhD | Director of Equitable Research-Practice Partnerships | RPPL, Nate Schwartz | Senior Researcher & Director of Applied Research and Professor of the Practice | RPPL, Rebekah Hornak | Implementation Specialist | NIRN, Annie Morrison | Co-Founder & Principal Consultant | Rivet Education, and Lisa Cutshall | Chief Learning Officer | Five Star Technology Solutions

The paper establishes concrete meanings for commonly used and interchangeable PL terms, allowing the entire PL field to share a singular vocabulary and clear framework for effective, instructionally focused professional learning. This shared understanding will allow the field to assess its own PL programming, make updates to ensure it aligns with the features of CBPL, and ultimately enhance both teacher PL experiences and student outcomes.
